Impulse versus Endurance.

Character is not measured by impulse, however great, but by endurance. Few there are indeed who do not have impulses to do good, and to do great good things; and many do individual deeds of daring, of benevolence, under impulse; the next impulse yielded to may be evil and selfish. It is the constant, steadfast life that counts. “We are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end.” “He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.” The meteor’s momentary glow or the lightning’s flash might be of a little benefit in a dark night, but we would greatly prefer the steady shining of a tallow candle.
