Methodist University Honoring a Roman Catholic

By Editor

In connection with the Roosevelt-Vatican incident and in view of the feeling of the Rev. Mr. Tipple in Rome against Roman Catholicism, we note the following which occurred in Denver April 11. Announcement was made that day that Denver University, a Methodist institution, will confer the degree of LL.D. upon Father William O’Ryan, a prominent figure among Colorado Catholics. The chancellor of the university, Henry A. Buchtel, was formerly governor of Colorado. Could you conceive of a Catholic university conferring such a degree upon a Protestant minister?
