Frans Hals Portrait Sells for $137,000

The greatest price ever paid for a painting in America was for the portrait of a woman, by Frans Hals, sold recently in New York for $137,000. Sixty paintings were sold at the time, the aggregate amount at which they were sold being more than $500,000.
