Tag Them

That is, tag a man as you would a dog. Virtually that is what Mr. Tufts, the Sunday-law man proposes. He would permit Jews and Seventh-day Adventists, if they could prove they were such, to open a saloon or store on Sunday, but only such would be allowed to buy as received certificates showing the beliefs of those who wished to buy or drink. No one but a Jew could buy food or drink of a Jew and no one but an Adventist could buy at an Adventist grocery or purchase drink at a Seventh-day Adventist saloon (no one ever heard of such a thing). Think of it! and this is free America. California ought to repudiate such a thing forever. Man is accountable alone to God for what he believes, and wo worth the day when some man or men or organization is recognized as God's agent to label him.
