The Unknown Heroes

BY KATHRINA BLOSSOM WILCOX
SING of the unknown heroes, Who fight in the battle of life; The song of the bravest soldiers, Who fight alone in the strife;
Unknown in the world’s great records, Unsung in the halls of fame, Sometimes alone and forgotten, Yet bearing aloft His name;
Who know of the many sorrows, The care and the grief and pain; Who know of the daily crosses That crush like Oppression’s chain;
Who know of the work and the burdens Borne bravely each passing day; Who know of the sad disappointments So often met in the way;
The love and the counsel, the pleading With God for the ones they love; The long, sleepless nights full of praying For help from the Father above;
Unknown save in God’s great record, There read in letters of gold; For he that is least, it is written, The greatest shall be in My fold.
And so, dear heart, what matter Tho the world may know it not? Strive bravely on in the battle, By God thou art not forgot.
Press on, tho the nights are weary, Tho the days are full of grief. The rift in the clouds brings sunshine; In Him thou wilt find relief.
And when He comes in His glory, He’ll call for the heroes unknown, And with His own hands He will crown them, And gather them round His throne.
