The Bible

By N. D. Anderson
The grand old Book of many tongues That speaks to man with one; The sweet old scroll, the sacred roll, God guardeth with His Son.
The sunlight, garnered in a sheaf, Shines ever from each page, While soaring from each hallowed leaf Rise songs Time can not age.
Within its bounds the universe Is chained for us a span; God speaks His will, and does not kill, Here face to face with man.
Who held its guiding arms aloft Through all the battling years, While fought its fearful foemen oft To pierce its side with spears!
Exalted Tome! Astounded stand The heights, the depths, and all, And feel invisible thy hand About them as a wall.
When empires halt, when nations die, When all perplexed, religions fall, Thou art man's guiding star on high, His haven sure, his all in all!
Thou grand old Book of many tongues That speaks to all with one; O sacred roll, O sweet old scroll, God guardeth with His Son!
