Hero-Harpers

By Delwin Rae Buchner
All stand triumphant on the glassy sea, Earth heroes they, twelve dozen thousand strong, From whose lips swells a glad thanksgiving song Which none can learn except that company— A paean, which pulsates with victory O'er that cruel, antichristian beast which long Afflicted them, tho they had done no wrong That they should be deprived of liberty. In caves they suffered, back of prison bars, From hunger, thirst, and men, insane with hate, But harvested at last a rich reward,— Harps, carved from gold, and crowns, aglow with stars; A key to heaven's massive, all-pearl gate; The right to be forever with their Lord.
