Harriman’s Railroad Policies to Continue
Mr. Harriman's policies will continue in the management of the Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, and allied railroads. Judge Robert S. Lovett, E. H. Harriman's personal counselor and close friend, was elected September 13 to succeed Harriman at the head of the Union Pacific executive committee. Jacob H. Schiff and William Rockefeller were elected directors in the place of Harriman and the late H. H. Rogers, and these also were given places on the executive committee. The fact that there were to be no changes in the policy, raised the prices of Union Pacific stock, contrary to the expectation of many who thought it would suffer great depreciation because of Mr. Harriman's death.
