The Little Things

SOMETIMES a mountain spring pours out its wealth of waters upon a ridge which divides two great diverse valleys. A very little channel, a small obstruction, would turn the flow either way.
Such times come into the spiritual life of every human being. Conviction is not strong and clear. Some temptation, against which the Spirit of God has warned us, is yielded to, and the soul begins its downward course. The sin of itself is what would be called small, but it is great in its results. It is the stifling of a conviction of duty; it is the hardening of conscience; it is the beginning of the downward path of sin which ends in eternal death. Beware, therefore, of the little sins, the little lapses from duty, the stiflings of conscience. Seek God continually for a knowledge of His Word, for the anointing of the divine eyesalve, for an infinitely tender conscience, for a heart and will ever to choose for God and right. This is the way of loyalty and truth; it is the only safe way.
