Seneca Lake

ALONG the shore, Where o’er and o’er The ripples kiss the sleeping land; The shadows vast, Gloom sail and mast, And cover all the gleaming strand.
And far away, Reflections stray, O’er Seneca’s shining surface broad, Until I seem, As in a dream, To view the hallowed streets of God.
And through the air, The moonbeams fair Descend and spread their silver sheen; And golden light From out the night, Across the rippling lake is seen.
Across the lake, Great arrows break, And sink into the waters deep, While voices sweet, With laughter greet My ears as oft in dreamland sleep.
The radiant sky, Doth glorify The slopes, and waters far and near. The stars above Seem eyes of love, That beam with tender care, and cheer.
The echoes blend, And bell-like, send Their music like the laughing rills. And as they ring, Thy praise they sing, Sweet lake amid the giant hills.
And drifting far ’Neath moon and star, My soul dreams of life’s crystal sea, Where golden light, Outshines the night, In God’s fair realm—eternity.
