Registry Fee and Indemnity Increase

The registry fee of letters in the United States has been raised from 8 cents to 10 cents, taking effect November 1, 1909. This order from the Postmaster-General also increases the maximum indemnity paid to the owner of a lost or rifled registered letter, from $25.00 to $50.00, thus doubling the Department's liability for valuable articles entrusted to its registry branch. Two cents for the additional insurance of $25.00 is certainly reasonable.
