Providential Features of the St. Croix Fire

The burning of the steamer St. Croix, carrying passengers between San Francisco and Los Angeles, which occurred a few days ago, had many providential features. The steamer carried much fewer passengers than usual; she had very little freight; the sea was calm and weather clear; the captain seems to have been cool-headed; and so all lives were saved, tho a few persons were injured. Surely in the face of the awful accident in the St. Paul mine in Illinois, those who were on board have great reason to be grateful.
