John Stewart Kennedy, who started as an errand boy in Glasgow, Scotland, died in New York, October 31, worth $60,000,000. He divides this into halves, giving one half to charities and universities and the other to his relatives. The American Bible Society receives $750,000; the Board of Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church, $2,250,000; the Board of Church Erection fund of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in this country, $2,250,000; and also the same for the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. A number of other religious organizations received large sums.
