Cheaper Burials

A Chicago Congregational minister makes appeal for cheaper burials. He remarks that it costs a little sum to be born, but a far greater sum to die and be buried properly. He instances the cost of $500 for a burial in the family of a workman who received only $1.50 per day. Advantage is taken of the sorrow of bereaved ones at such a time and much unnecessary expense is incurred. This minister advises the formation of organizations within churches, which can make preparation for those who may be bereaved and secure much cheaper service in every respect. His suggestion is certainly reasonable. If each church would purchase its own plot of ground, the burial of the dead could be made much less expensive.
