The Tolerance of Orthodoxy

A ROMAN CATHOLIC priest of Minsk, Russia, has been condemned to imprisonment for six months and to be deprived of his parish, for having baptized a child of a Catholic father and an orthodox mother, according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. The father of the child was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Of course that seems hard to Roman Catholicism, but the Christian Advocate remarks that “a few hundred years ago, and in some parts of the world within one hundred years, greater punishments than this were inflicted in the name of the Holy Roman Catholic Church.” True Christianity is always not only tolerant, but would demand the same rights for others which it would for itself.
