Mysterious Poison Fumes Aboard the Buffalo

A strange tale comes from the sea. The cruiser “Buffalo,” which reached San Francisco August 29, tells of a tremendous typhoon which stove in the bulkheads of the steel-plated ship, stripped bodies naked, and released poison fumes which struck the captain blind and caused the death of five other men. These fumes, which came from the paint locker, are regarded as mysterious by the United States Naval experts, now investigating the matter at Hongkong, for it was in the China Sea where the typhoon struck the ship.
