North Pole Discovered.

Dr. Frederick Cook, not having been heard from for a year and a half, given up for lost or dead, the object of a special search party, announces from Lerwick, Shetland Islands, that he has discovered the North Pole, and that he planted there the flag of the United States April 21, 1908. It was a cheerless spot that he found at the pole to have so aroused the ambition of men for so many years—an unbroken sea of ice for hundreds of miles, no land, and no life! The temperature on the journey dropped at one time to over eighty degrees below zero. It was over a year from the time he left the pole until he reached Upernavik, May 21, 1909.
