World’s Highest Chime of Bells

The highest chime of bells in the world is being placed in the Metropolitan Life Insurance building of New York. They will be hung 689½ feet high; their aggregate weight is more than seven tons. The largest weighs three and one half tons and the smallest 1,500 pounds. The bells will be stationary, the clappers will do the swinging. The bells, beginning with the largest, are keyed respectively in E-flat, A-flat, B-flat, and C. Their tone is especially deep, and it is estimated that they can be heard twenty miles.
