Prohibition in Mississippi

Prohibition in Mississippi seems assured, according to the statement of Congressman Humphreys. He says, “I am confident that the Southern states now in the prohibition column will remain there, and that others will join them. I believe that three men out of every four in Mississippi would vote ‘dry’ if the question were put to them. We have had state-wide prohibition since January 1, and it is working all right.” The penalty for violating any one of the three provisions of the new law is fixed at a fine of not less than $5,000, or imprisonment for not more than two years. It is evident that congress intends the law to be effective.
