New Telephone Trust Organized

A new telephone trust, the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, has been organized, which is said to be the first step in merging all the 7,800 Bell companies in the country. The capital of the new concern is nearly a billion, to be exact, $970,000,000. The Bell system controls 3,215,215 of the 6,500,000 telephone stations of the country, and has connection with 1,500,000 more. There are 16,000 independent companies, but many of them are small.
