Four Emblems of the Christian

THE Christian is emblemized by four forms of vegetation. He is a tree by the water, representing growth through the reception of truth. He is to grow as the lily, showing the blossoming of His life into beauty. He is a well-pruned vine, typifying fruit-bearing under severe trial and correction. And He is to flourish as the palm-tree, and this is the token of his final triumph.
