A Record Grain Crop

In 1906 there were produced in this country of wheat, corn, rye, oats, and barley the total of 4,839,000,000 bushels; 1908 fell off from this record, producing 4,340,000,000 bushels. The 1909 crop is estimated at 5,062,000,000 bushels. Think of it—five billion bushels, over fifty bushels for every man, woman, and child in the United States! Counting the world's population at a billion and a half, it is more than three bushels per capita. America is a great country, but there are many other great producers. The world ought not to starve.
