The Decline of Nations

The London “Times,” of July 6, in an editorial on “National Nervousness” declares that “we know next to nothing as yet of the laws that govern the growth and decline of nations. We can study history for those laws, but no one has yet found them. Many different reasons have been given for the decline of the Roman Empire, but most of them merely amount to a statement that the Roman Empire did decline.” We can tell The Times, and all others, where they may find the reasons, and that source of information is God’s word. In that word is found all the reasons why individuals and nations decline. It will show also that notwithstanding all that men may do, if they transgress the laws of their existence, if their usefulness for God comes to an end, they are bound to decline, and no power can save them.
