Calvin

Calvin.— The way some are inclined to exalt Calvin recalls the anecdote of the Scotchman concerning Calvin’s disciple, John Knox. Said a Scotch cabby to an American tourist, “Yon’s the house of John Knox.” The tourist responded, “Well, who was this John Knox, anyway?” Indignantly the shocked Scotchman replied, “Mon! Do ye no read your Bible?” Neither Calvin nor Knox was a Bible prophet or apostle. Both lived according to their lights, tho both held serious errors. God blessed them both despite the errors. Calvin had his place, and he filled it, perhaps, too well, at least too strongly, of himself.
