The Big Trees of California

“The Big Trees of California,” the sequoia gigantea are not the biggest trees in the world by any means, Mr. Egerton R. Young tells us in the National Geographical Magazine for August. He says the Eucalyptus Amygdalina is the tallest, if not perhaps the largest, tree that grows. Specimens as high as 470 and 480 feet have been found. In one of these trees a great cavern has been scooped out for a commodious kitchen with all of its appliances. It is not uncommon to find some of these trees 120 to 200 feet in circumference, so large that it does not even pay to cut them down.
