A Mountain Boy’s Hungry Heart
A writer in the “Sunday School Times,” in speaking of the South, tells us of a trip that he made through the mountains of Kentucky, in which he met a real keen, clear-eyed, mountain-boy, eleven years old, who had been to Sunday-school only once in his life, and knew nothing about the Bible. He had been to school but very little, a few days each year, but did not care particularly for that. From an illustration at hand the missionary talked with him about yoking up with Christ. The little fellow had never heard anything of the kind, but he was an interested listener. The missionary closes by saying: “His hungry little heart was ready to take in the wondrous truths of God’s word when told to him,” and then asks, “Where are the reapers?”
