My Prayer

By Ida M. Eggleston
Father in heaven, take not from me The trials that lie before; But give me strength to stand each test, And grace to trust Thee more.
Take not from me a bitter cup That I am called to drink; But help me honor Thy dear name In all I do or think.
Let me not be one to faint Upon a Jordan's brink; For if Thou callest me to cross, Thou wilt not let me sink.
Purge Thou mine heart, and make it pure Wherein it is not right; Cleanse me, O Lord, from secret sin, So hateful in Thy sight; For Thou dost see my inmost heart, Whatever is therein. O, cleanse me with the precious blood So freely shed for sin! Thou knowest, Lord, it is my will To glorify Thy name. O, let not my professing Thee Be unto Thee a shame!
