Temperance Work Against Rising Drink Consumption

More than 46,000,000 of the population of the United States are living in prohibition territory. This territory embraces seventy per cent of the area of the whole country. But, notwithstanding this immense advantage that we have gained in favor of prohibition, the amount of drink consumed so far this year shows an increase over any previous year. The amount of drinking per capita is tremendously on the increase. This indicates the very great activity of the forces of evil, and it should spur every temperance worker to renewed faithfulness and activity. The triumph of rum means the triumph of degradation, misery, and crime. We must combat it to the last ditch, and to the limit of our abilities and opportunities.
