They Rejected the Light of the World

No more do Sheba’s camels tread the sand, Assailed by rays of the Arabian sun, Well-laden with rich gifts for Solomon, God’s chosen King, and wisest in the land. No royal monarch sits on Israel’s throne— What need of spices, incense, precious gold? The temple site is desolate and cold; Its mammoth stones lie scattered, overthrown. Like brilliant sun within a starless night, The glory of Jerusalem has set In an eternal and an endless doom. Her sons loved darkness more than they loved Light. God sent His Son to plead with them, and yet They chose not Life, but fetters of the tomb.
