The Emmanuel Church Movement.—
Boston happens to be the place where two great religio-healing movements have originated. Christian Science began its work here a number of years ago, and now more recently the Emmanuel Church Movement, under Dr. Worcester, began its work in an Episcopalian church of the same city. The Emmanuel Movement seems to have some points quite in common with Christian Science, but differs, in claiming to be strictly in harmony with “modern science,” the doctrines of Mrs. Eddy being directly antagonistic to all that is comprehended under the term “modern science.” But both claim that disease is the result of morbid mental states or ideas. The cure in both cases is by means of psychic or mental methods applied by a specially qualified or instructed healer. And furthermore each claims a healing power for the healer who applies the distinctive methods of his school.
