American Railroad Speed Records

It may be of interest to our young readers to know that the fastest railroad time ever made in the United States, was over the Philadelphia and Reading line in July, 1904. The four and eight-tenths miles from Egg Harbor to Brigantine Junction, N. J., was made in two and one half minutes. The average speed was one hundred and fifteen and two-tenths miles an hour. For a long distance record, the Burlington Road furnished the track, a record of ninety-eight and seven-tenths miles an hour over a stretch of fourteen and eight-tenths miles, made in May, 1902.
