Jewish Business Genius in Hungary
An interesting incident has just been recorded in a Hungarian journal. A number of the Catholic congregations who were compelled to leave France by the Separation law have settled in Hungary, and have brought with them an enormous fortune of 60,000,000 francs. Recently they were engaged in making arrangements for the establishment of various undertakings for the employment of their capital. Some members of the council of the order went to Paris to submit their proposals to the “General” of the order. He asked them if a Jew was to be at the head of the enterprise. They were amused, and asked the “General” what a Jew had to do with such a pious undertaking. He retorted that all the Catholic business in Hungary had gone to rack and ruin for lack of the directing genius of a Jew.—Hebrew Standard.
