Sugar Trust Tariff Cartoon

A striking cartoon comes to our notice, in which a giant automobile with a hog in charge, is labeled 45 per cent duty; while behind it trudges an ordinary American citizen pulling a wooden-wheeled wagon on which is a sack of sugar, labeled 80 per cent duty. That is, the consumer must pay on his sugar 80 per cent duty, while the wealthy sugar-trust man, who benefits by it, can purchase his automobile at 45 per cent duty. Underneath is the following legend: “A Trust Reason: We ought to have protection because we auto.”
