True Protestantism and Church-State Union

The “Western Watchman” says that Protestantism stands for the worst form of the union of church and state. That is getting to be true of what is called modern Protestantism, but true Protestantism stands for no union of church and state whatever. That was one of the essentials in the Protest that was presented at the Diet of Spires by the German princes. It was a protest against the church and the priest over conscience, and of the union of church and state.
