Man Is Not God

A letter comes to us approving our “noble Christian paper,” but notes a serious mistake which Christians are making, and which had been revealed to the writer of the said note, as the “latest scientific discovery;” namely, “that man is God.” That is hardly late. There was a character which six thousand years ago said practically the same thing. The record of it is found in Gen. 3:4, 5: “Ye shall not surely die, . . . ye shall be as God.” How one could be as God without being God is inconceivable. We really prefer the word of Jehovah, who declares, “I am God and not man.” Surely it would be modesty for man to say, “I am man and not God.”
