Lured to Destruction

What a moral lesson there was in the luring to destruction of the big coasting steamer “R. D. Inman” in the murky waters at Bolinas Bay, Saturday night, March 20. The captain, thinking that he was well out to sea, saw a light or fire, and supposing it to be the signal of a steamer in distress, started to the rescue; but when too late he found his own ship on the rocks. Fortunately no lives were lost, altho it is thought that the ship would be a total loss. The light which he saw was a bonfire on the beach. What a lesson it is in life! There are thousands of noble human barks which are lured to destruction by the will-o’-the-wisps of pleasure all along life’s way.
