A Case of Spiritual Blindness.
The editor of the Western Watchman declares in his issue of Feb. 12, 1909, that there is a disease which “attacks the eyes of the soul and makes Catholics blind. It is the disease of impurity.” “It is impurity that makes men blind spiritually. Go all over Austria, France, Italy, Spain—those four great Catholic countries. O, they are great Catholic nations! I love to visit them. The atmosphere is Catholic. All the traditions are Catholic. . . . But O, there is a horrible irreligion there. . . . There is a frightful immorality there, and that tells the whole story. They are impure. The men are impure, and the women are impure; and the life that they lead in those four lands is an impure life, and consequently they are spiritually blind.” And what is true of Catholic countries and Catholic lands and Catholic peoples will find application in many other circles.
