Germany’s Naval Program and War Burden
A despatch from Germany declares that Germany is on the eve of a serious internal crisis. The new naval program is demanding a vast outlay, and there is an additional imperial revenue to the amount of $115,000,000 called for. It has been thought that it might result in the rejection of the entire government scheme. The great war burden is crushing the nations. England, in ordinary language, is in about the same boat. Some of the British ministry are for six new “Dreadnaughts,” while others feel that they must be cut down to four, even tho Germany lays down the keels for as many as does England. It was expected that Germany was laying down but three, but the news is that she has laid down four new “Dreadnaughts.”
