Judge Anderson Sets Aside Standard Oil Fine
A decision by Judge A. B. Anderson, of Chicago, in the Federal Court, March 10, set aside the decision by Judge Landis of some months ago by which the Standard Oil Company was fined $29,240,000. The decision is not before us. The telegraphic despatches state that Judge Anderson declares the Government had not proved any legal rate, and that the freight-rate schedule was subject to change, and therefore not standard. The understanding is, however, that the United States Government will carry the case up to the Circuit Court of Appeals, and from there to the Supreme Court of the United States, if necessary. If the decision of Judge Anderson stands, we are told that it will greatly affect all court proceedings in connection with the railway.
