The Endless Chain Prayer Letter

An endless chain prayer letter has been sent to us which asks every person who receives it to multiply it and send it to nine others, each one of the nine to do the same, and so on, and so on, with the statement that it was sent by Bishop Lawrence of Massachusetts, and the promise that one who would push it forward according to design, would be delivered from any great calamity, etc. We have before noted this. We simply wish to say, (1) Bishop Lawrence, in a letter to us, which we have before published, denies having done anything of the sort at all; and (2) It is a piece of the most arrant superstition. We hope that our readers will throw all such communications into the waste-basket, being assured that the curse causeless shall not come. True prayer to God is not brought about by any such method.
