Pope Out of the Vatican.

A despatch from Rome, February 6, tells us the astounding news that the earthquake in Italy was responsible for the pope's leaving the Vatican. He visited the survivors of the earthquake in the Vatican hospital,—the first time since 1870 that the head of the Roman Catholic Church has set foot on Italian soil. He wished to visit Calabria and Sicily, but was persuaded not to do so. He not only left the Vatican, but he showed the good sense to reply in the affirmative to Señor Nathan, the mayor, a Jew, and a freemason, that the Vatican would receive refugees from the earthquake.
