False Christs and Prophets

False Christs and Prophets.—We have now in this country “Manna Mysteria,” of Brooklyn, a woman who claims to be the reincarnation of Christ; John Alexander Dowie, of Chicago, who declares himself to be Elijah III., the Restorer; F. W. Sandford, Shiloh, Maine, the “one shepherd,” “David My King,” etc., etc.; and Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, with her mass of contradictory mysticisms called “Christian Science.” All these gather their disciples around themselves. Each system makes the one person essential to salvation and success. Each of them is based in some way on the ancient falsehood, “Ye shall not surely die;” “Ye shall be as God.” Many of the disciples are sincere and better than the system and its logic. Their goodness is not because of the isms with which they are connected, but in spite of them. All these isms are contrary to His Word.
