EARNESTNESS INDEED.

In England they have a hearty way of doing Christian work that does not seem to reach us in America. This has often been illustrated in the wonderful meetings held by Dr. Torrey. In Bristol a “torch-light procession” was organized, and it was “headed by clergy, ministers, and hundreds of volunteers.” This began at 10:30 P.M., and its principal aim was to reach the drunkards and outcasts generally. The report says that about 300 people under the power of drink were gathered in the Y. M. C. A. hall, and the sights that were seen were enough to stir the hearts of Christ’s servants with deepest pity.” Thank God for the zeal that sends men out to the highways and hedges, to barrooms and brothels, to gather in the “fagends” of the devil’s dupes! These are the last days, and what is done must be done quickly.—Selected.
