LOYAL TO THE OLD BOOK.

We are glad that there are loyal men among the ministers of Jesus Christ in the great popular churches who are staying, in some degree, at least, the strong tide of infidelity, fostered and fed by so-called “higher criticism,” concerning the Bible. Such an one is the pastor of the First Congregational Church of Stockton, Cal., judging by an address to which we listened Sunday evening, November 20. The subject was the “Fixing of the Scripture Canon,” in which the speaker clearly presented some of the more salient strong historical proofs of its genuineness, as found in our common English Bible, and lucidly showing why the apocryphal books of both Old and New Testaments were rejected.
It was a loyal plea for the grand Old Book, which the Book does not need, but the people do; and we were glad to hear two ladies, as they went out, remark to the effect that they liked to hear such instruction.
We are living in a time of question and decision.
