Illustrations in Preaching.

—The Christian Advocate points out the danger of illustrations leading astray from the truth, and gives this instance: “You know you plant roses in the sunshine, and heliotrope and geraniums, but if you want your fuchsias to grow you must keep them in a shady nook.” After the sermon a woman came up to him with her face beaming with pleasure, ‘O, I am so grateful for that sermon,’ she said, clasping his hand and shaking it warmly. His heart glowed for a moment—only for a moment, tho. ‘Yes,’ she went on fervently, ‘I never knew before what was the matter with my fuchsias.’ Let the illustration be secondary to the truth to be applied or enforced.
