UNHAPPY RETROGRESSION.

THERE are many who claim that the race is progressing toward a glorious future. The following from Watchword and Truth, which is easily verified, would indicate that in one of the most vital requisites no such progress is visible:—

In spite of every effort the number of divorces continues to increase. In four of our states there has been an increase in five years of nearly thirty per cent. in the ratio of divorces. The facts behind the divorces are the most appalling features to be faced. They either indicate a breaking up of moral character, or of personal virtue, or of a sense of the sacred relations of the sexes. In any case the destruction of the home is indicated, and with that comes the ruin of the nation. This is especially true of the American nation.
