Minding the Flesh.

Unconsciously the world—the unbelieving world—testifies constantly to the truth of God's Book. An apostle, in speaking of the two kinds of characters in the world, says: “They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh.” Rom. 8:5. The following confession from a leading daily paper recently is to the point:—
Fellow citizens, millions of us try to keep the upper end of our bodies from getting bald, much more earnestly than we ever try to develop ourselves spiritually. The best tailor can make ten times more money than the best teacher. The brewer is richer than the writer, or even the publisher of books. Let a man come along with a new idea—the nearer he gets to the soul, the nearer he gets to the poorhouse. He must talk to the body directly, if he would interest the sluggish spirit that inhabits it.
But there is another class, and the fruit is the test of the tree. The apostle continues, “But they that are after the Spirit [do mind] the things of the Spirit. For the minding of the flesh is death; but the minding of the Spirit is life and peace.” Rom. 8:5, 6, margin.
