Affairs in China

News has been received in Peking that the famine in the province of Kwangsi is growing worse. The starving population is estimated at 200,000, and, daily, numbers of deaths occur from starvation. A Japanese report states that cannibalism is being practised and human flesh is publicly offered for sale. The famine is contributing to the seriousness of the rebellion. The Kwangsi and Yunnan rebels have joined forces, and they are said to number 50,000, most of whom are armed with modern weapons. The French consul is reported to have notified the Chinese Government that unless the insurrection in Kwangsi is suppressed, French troops will be sent across the border to quell the disturbance.
