A Terrible Calamity.

An utterly unforeseen catastrophe occurred at the little mining town of Frank, North West Territory, early on the morning of April 29, when a part of the top of Turtle Mountain shook itself loose and came down in a fearful avalanche on the little village of Frank, burying houses and their inhabitants under tons of rock and earth. Some reports indicate that there was an explosion of gas in the side of the mountain which precipitated the avalanche, but other reports state that this was not the case, but that the mountain-side was either jarred loose by a slight earthquake or fell of its own weight. The latest report states that 64 are now known to have lost their lives. The inhabitants of the village who were not killed in the catastrophe have left or are about to leave the place. The loss to mine owners and property holders is placed at a million and a half.
