Cholera in China

THE London Express states that recently at the city of Chinanfu, China, where the cholera was raging a distinctly Chinese remedy was employed for combatting the disease. It is of course well known that cholera ceases during cold weather, and the Chinese thought to stop the ravages of the disease by making the demons of the disease believe winter had arrived. They accordingly went through all the religious ceremonies of New-year’s day; but the ravages of the disease continued. At another place two English missionaries were accused of poisoning the water and thus causing the cholera epidemic. The populace were made to believe the charge, and actually killed the missionaries.
